Lynching Version 2.0 (poem)

Lynching Version 2.0

Knee on my neck a modern noose

Passive bystanders watching, recording, ignoring

Dignity cracked to pieces; faded fast into the trees

Pressed hard; viciously like my cheek in the pavement

Tears evaporated

Breath dissipated

Until breath was no more

A divine expansion

Spirit flown into the arms of my mother

Her name trembling against my thick brown lips

Politics

Heaven, stained glass, church bells, sirens

Death

Protest

Riots

Fire

Love
